SAMPLE SCENE Killing scene (SOUND EDITING NOT DONE)

...

...

Here is a rough-cut without sound effects of how the killing scene is going to play out. It is a base design and needs improvement. This needs to be refined and added to the newest rough cut which will be uploaded soon.

What we have filmed / what we need

To Film:
Image result for video camera
  • Establishing shots
  • More realistic opening of door during garage scene
  • Better false scare
Have Filmed:
  • Bedroom scene
  • Jigsaw like Santa on t.v
  • Stabbing
  • Getting dressed

PLANNING Scenes to Reshoot

1. Establishing shots with drone
2. False scare
3. Add shot variety with false scare to show fear
4. Tiffany needs to stay scared for longer, use angles to show this
5. Whenever there is a SFX used to show fear adjust camera
6. Shot variety of going down stairs
7. arguing about going to garage

Overall:
- failure to reflect some key general + genre conventions
- some audio issues- editing pace and length of takes generally- taking out some shots that don't really add much- general lack of cross-cutting as a tension-building device- lack of shot variety in several sequences (especially 'cutaway' shots)

For example male / female gaze (in powerpoint). We also go over our audience feedback received throughout our early filming stages.

ROUGH CUT 1

...

...
Our second, completely reshooted cut of our final idea which we will hopefull be progressing on in the following weeks.

Wednesday, 20 December 2017

PLANNING Analysis on Rough Cut 1

We need to reflect and improve on:

  • Clear frame shifts
  • Focus on continuity
  • Achieve verisimilitude
  • Emphasis on scream queen
    • Bare shoulders putting clothes on?
    • tight, ripped jeans
    • tight skirt
    • bright red lip-stick
    • more make-up in general
    • etc.
  • Instead of the guy saying "yes" he should say "no" as in slashers the "untruthful" people usually get killed.
  • Add horror cliches
    • Squeaky door
    • False scare
      • A dog or cat opening the door.
    • The guy goes out of bedroom to check and hears a scream from the bedroom. Runs back to check and then the T.V is flickering.
  • Clearer gender roles
    • Man protects girl much clearer
      • "Wait here!"
      • "Stay back!"
      • etc.
  • Instead of black socks for the female, use pink.

ROUCH CUT 1

Our first look into the final idea we will have. All the characters are present and the rough outline has been done further. We realise we need to work a lot on costume, mise-en-scene and shot variety.

...

...

SAMPLE SCENE 1

A sample scene we have put together and will reflect on in class. We only had the resources to use one character, hence it will just be a rough outline of the idea. Not our final idea.
